I'deyah Ricketts has been an author since she was age 4. Her first book, Where Are the Animals? was published when she was 7 years old. She went on to publish the 1st book of the Lyla Lyte series, Lyla Lyte and the Liberry Fruit when she was age 11, followed by the 2nd book, Lyla Lyte and the Loot Tree. I'deyah is currently a senior at Latin School of Chicago. I'deyah will be attending college where she will study to be a pediatrician and continue writing. She lives in Chicago with her mom, dad, grandmother and younger brother Josiah.
I'deyah wins the Scholastic 2020 Honorable Mention Award. The Regional Awards Ceremony for the Chicago Writing Region of the Scholastic Art & Writing will take place in March at the UIC School of Theatre & Music.
I'deyah's writing was selected to be included in 2018-2019 Depaul's Blue Book. Sixty-six (66) pieces of poetry, fiction, and nonfiction were selected to represent the best of Illinois high school writers.
She was also INVITED to read at the Launch on February 8th, 2020.
I'deyah was the 1st recipient of the 2018-19 Latin School of Chicago Forum award for best news or feature story on a local, national, or international topic.
In 2017, I'deyah was honored to be showcased as one of the teen authors for ChiTeen Literary Fest. Each year, the wonderful event is hosted by Chicago Public Libraries. To see interview click here
I'deyah signed over 600 books with "Follow Your Dreams" distributed to kids attending Maryland Public Schools: Meade Heights, Freetown, Germantown, Tyler Heights and Maryland City Elementary.
The children of Maryland Public schools were all inspired by I'deyah encouraging them to love reading and believe in themselves.

At age 8 I'deyah was one of the youngest to be interviewed by Emmy Award-winning Journalist Harry Porterfield on CBS's Someone You Should Know. The program featured her as a young author visiting children at White Elementary in Chicago to inspire them to read and follow their dreams.
